The Wynland Covid-19 Handwashing station was designed with a focus on the safety and hygiene of the operators. As such the basin is operated with the operators knee with no visible way for a person to touch it with hands, ensuring the best possible way to wash hands.
The following elements were considered in the design of the washbasin:
- Hand washing facilities shall be constructed from corrosion-resistant and water-impermeable material, which shall be smoothly finished (Stainless Steel was specified).
- The facilities must be easy to clean and will drain directly into drainage channels.
- The facilities must be operated by either a knee or foot press (Elbow is unsatisfactory).
- Water must flow at sufficient flow rate and temperature (40-45°C according to WHO Guidelines).
- Facility must be totally closed up (concealed unit).
- Geyser of minimum 10L must be used to heat the water.
- Pressure valve must be included as part of the design.
- Geyser must be fitted below the basin.
- Must be able to be delivered complete – only tie in water and connect power supply.
