The upgrade and extension of the Nederburg wine production facility in Paarl project was led by world renowned engineer and process consultant, Gerard de Villiers and focusses on various aspects of the facility.
Our involvement was included in the following sections:
Pre-bottling upgrade
- Relocating existing pre-bottling tanks with low bed trucks and permits
- Remove ex-Bergkelder tank, modify and install at pre-bottling area with mobile cranes
- Reuse and install walkways and access platforms
- Reuse and install product piping
- Test and commission
Barrel Maturation upgrade
- Remove ex-Bergkelder tanks, modify and install in new layout
- Reuse existing walkway sections
- Reuse existing high speed automated barrel washing unit and install with all services
- Remove redundant tanks and reuse for rainwater harvesting from roof sections
- Supply and install rainwater harvested water piping system to supply cooling towers, garden taps and wash bay areas
- Test and commission
Centrifuge relocation
- Remove ex-Bergkelder centrifuge unit complete with all ancillaries
- Install new specialized concrete kick block unit to safely secure centrifuge unit
- Install centrifuge unit with all ancillaries
- Supply and install overhead gantry and re-use hoist
- Test and commission
MCC Expansion and upgrade:
The existing MCC grape reception at Bergkelder was to be combined with the existing system at Nederburg and included:
- Removal of MCC system at Bergkelder
- Removal of MCC system at Nederburg
- Modify all equipment
- Manufacture new grape reception equipment
- Install a new double intake system that serves 5 presses with door filling and one Pellenc destemmer.
- System to be able to receive 2 x 500kg forklift truck at once and distribute whole bundles to all presses by means of actuated gates
- Support structure for all conveyors
- Walkways and structures
- Belt conveyors and drives
- Electrical control system
- Test and commission
New off-load bin area
- Remove ex-Bergkelder offloading bins and modernize
- Remove ex-Bergkelder mash coolers and modernize
- Remove ex-Bergkelder destemmers and mash pumps and install in new lay out
- Install mash lines and knife diversion valves
- Supply and install complete offloading control system and electrical
- Install re-used ex-Bergkelder stem conveyors with new support structure and belts
- Supply and install stem conveyor control system and electrical
- Test and commission
New Red fermentation, White fermentation cellar and Maturation cellar
- Site establishment at Bergkelder
- Remove all red fermenters, white fermenters, maturation tanks and presses
- Remove ex-Bergkelder walkways, electrical DB boards and reusable pipe work
- Modify all the above
- Transport all equipment from Bergkelder to Nederburg with low bed trucks and permits
- Rig and install all tanks in new red wine and white wine cellar
- Supply and manufacture new galvanized steel 3 story support structure for 3 levels of maturation tanks
- Install maturation tanks
- Install walkways, cat ladders and central staircase units to all levels
- Install cooling reticulating main ring and branches
- Install electrical conduits
- Install stainless steel product lines
- Install 3 story inner-staves lift complete with safety system
- Supply and install state of the art VinPilot temperature control system to all tanks
- Manufacture and install drive system to press to allow press to run on rails inside the winery and to waste pit
- Manufacture and install press feed system to fill press from self-emptying red fermenters
- Install rail track for press operation
- Modify and install pomace reception bin and conveyor to receive press discharge pomace
- Supply and install press juice line and pumping system
- Modify red wine pump over systems
External tank storage facility upgrade
- Remove ex-Bergkelder walkways, pipes and cat ladders
- Supply mobile cranes and remove abnormal tanks at Bergkelder and transport to Nederburg with permits
- Installation of tanks in new lay-out outside
- Installation of staircase shaft and walkways
- Installation of stainless steel cooling lines
- Supply and install state of the art VinPilot temperature control system to all tanks
- Manufacture and install pump hoist system to allow product pumps to be raised over bunded areas
- Test and commission
